Call for A New Penticostal Awakening

Today is the feast of Pentecost

Everywhere we hear one word: there is a need for change. Surely, God desires a significant transformation on Earth. This change can only be realized through the Holy Spirit. Each Pentecost reminds us of the great call to become a new creation. The greatest promise of Jesus is the Holy Spirit. The seven weeks starting from the Pentecost feast are known as the season of Apostles, focusing particularly on the works of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost is a feast that has an inseparable connection with the history of salvation. In the Old Testament, we read that the Israelites celebrated the feast of Pentecost associated with the harvest. The word "Pentecost" means fifty - the feast on the fiftieth day. It was a festival of offering the first fruits of the harvest. Later, it transformed into a celebration of the Israelites becoming the people of God according to the covenant.

In the New Testament, this feast gained a "new" meaning. It was on the fiftieth day after the resurrection that the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles. On that day, the Church was officially "inaugurated." It is the birthday of the new people of God. On that day, God the Father sealed the new covenant with the Holy Spirit, who embodies divine love. This covenant is inscribed not on tablets of stone but on human hearts. After Pentecost, filled with the Holy Spirit, the Apostles went out into the world with the message of the new covenant, laying the foundation for church communities. The word "Apostle" itself means "one who is sent." This season reminds us that all who have received baptism and anointing are "sent ones."

The strong connection between the works of the Holy Spirit, the Apostles, and the Church as the people of God, the vitality and unity of the early Church, and the missionary nature and mission of the Church are the main reflections during this season. We can also partake in the unity and fellowship of the Apostles, who traveled around the world with their Master's message, forming new church communities. By holding on to the truth that we are temples of the Holy Spirit, with His constant help, we too can proclaim Christ like the Apostles.

May the earth be filled with the fruits, gifts, and charisms of the Holy Spirit. May God send forth His Spirit to renew the world. Amen.
